One of the most daunting, yet important, tasks in establishing the Colorado Freedom
Memorial is to create a proper accounting of all Colorado service members who made the
supreme sacrifice on behalf of their country. Over the years names have been lost to
poor record-keeping, a fire at the National Records Center in St Louis and not being
reported to begin with. The names of these heroes will not only be etched into glass
on the Colorado Freedom Memorial, but will be included in this database, which will
become an invaluable resource for historians, researchers, and the families and loved
ones of our fallen Coloradans.
We are providing online access to this database in order that you may learn more about
the thousands of Colorado heroes who have lost their life in service to their country.
We invite you to participate in this ongoing project by collecting information about any
Coloradans you may know ofin any war or military action, and any branch of the armed
forceswho made the ultimate sacrifice, and
submit that information for inclusion
in this database.
One note. You will notice as you browse this list that we have not placed many of
the names from WWI in the database at this time. That's actually our current research
project and we will be updating that list monthly. If you have a name from WWI to submit,
please do so. As you can well imagine it's getting harder
to find information on those
killed in action years ago as we're now generations removed from them. Any info you
can provide is most helpful.
Throughout this website you will see the names and home towns of random honorees displayed
over the flags of the United States and Colorado on the left side of the page.
